Laundry Problems

Stuff has been going pretty great over here. It was a lot warmer this week, and a lot of the snow has melted. We've been teaching a bunch of lessons this week and it's been really good.

We have an investigator right now named M. He's in his mid to late 20's and first started investigating the church 5 years ago. He was kind of on and off for a while but has been coming to church and family night activities every week for the last 8 or 9 months. He's been taught all of the missionary lessons multiple times and they have tried to get him baptized, but he just won't commit to it. On Saturday we were teaching him, and we asked him why he keeps coming to church. He lives pretty far away and walks 3 hours to come every week. He just said it was because he had nothing else to do on Sundays. But we were trying to help him recognize that he really feels the spirit, because honestly no one just walks 6 hours total every Sunday morning and Monday night just because they have nothing better to do. We then asked him if he had read the Book of Mormon, he said he did, and asked if he believed it was true. He said he wasn't sure, so we asked if he had prayed about it, and he hadn't. Somehow, after all those years of being taught by missionaries, he had never prayed about the Book of Mormon or whether or not the church was true.

Commit your young women to all read the Book of Mormon again. They've probably already read it through because of the reading it by the end of the year thing, so it's great that they're already familiar with it, but this time really study it. It doesn't matter how long it takes, but read some every day and after write at least 2 or 3 paragraphs about what they learned. And then every day, after every time they read, pray sincerely to know if it's true. I can guarantee that by the time they finish they will have a testimony of not only the Book of Mormon, but of Jesus Christ and his atonement, of the the truth of gospel, and of the truth of this church.

As for other fun stuff this week, I was doing my whites and I accidentally left my black stretchy pants in with them and it died all my garments and white shirts purple. I immediately went to the Kaufland and bought some bleach and washed them a few times using the bleach. They look better, but today I think I'm going to try just soaking them in bleach water in the tub to see if that helps more.

Also, last monday after emails we went to this tiny little second hand store looking for sweaters because I didn't bring any. They didn't really have any good sweaters but we stayed and looked around for a while anyway just because I love looking in thrift stores. We found some dope button up shirts that we're buying, and I bought a cool pair of slacks with cool pockets on the sides that actually fit really well. Also since we were there for a lot longer than most people probably are, the lady working started talking to us and we told told her all about who we are and our church and stuff. Also when we left we gave her a Book of Mormon. Also earlier this week we taught the law of chastity to one of our investigators while playing ping pong (people here love ping pong). Surprisingly it came up naturally while we were just talking and was probably one of the least awkward law of chastity lessons ever taught. Also we went to McDonalds and even though everyone says it's way better here I couldn't tell the difference. Also we've been sneakily teaching our English students about the church. Apparently they used to start English classes with a prayer and give a spiritual though at the end, but they stopped because they would all just tune out and not care. They say that after we stopped that and started just being friendly that the students have been a lot more excited about class. We still sneak in stuff like having them remember the name of the prophet and then quizzng them on it next class. Elder Marcek was super pumped when he saw that I had the Spirit of America MoTab CD. That's pretty much all of the exciting stuff that happened that I can think of this week.

We'll be out in front of the webcam at exactly 4:00 our time, so 8:00 am for you. Hopefully you get this email before then, if not tell me and we'll retry next week. Or if you just watch it all the time you'll probably see us. We walk by there almost every day.

Here are pictures of this place called the Hotel Korana. The Korana is a river in Karlovac and the hotel is right by it. Apparently they used to say it was the most beautiful building in Karlovac. It got bombed out during the war though, and now they are tearing it down (rumor has it they'll build a new hotel).

If you go down to the south part of town there are still a lot of ruined buildings and stuff. Also around the city some of the older buildings have lot's of pock marks and and bullet holes all over 1 or 2 sides of the building. In the more central part of town, a lot of them have been patched up and repainted though.

That's all for now.
Love, Schyler
